Our research team at ISL is multidisciplinary, comprising members with backgrounds in engineering, physics, chemistry, and signal processing.

Our research focus areas are:

  • Fundamental mechanisms: We explore the fundamental principles that govern interactions in both physical and chemical domains to uncover new insights.

  • Micro-/Nano-device design and fabrication: We design and fabricate advanced devices that combine our understanding of fundamental mechanisms paired with our unique fabrication capbilities at SFU, to develop high-performance microsystems.

  • Advanced materials: Our team utilizes the unique properties of nanomaterials to innovate sensing solutions, capitalizing on their exceptional characteristics to improve both sensitivity and functionality.

  • System Integration: We design and implement interface electronics and signal processing methods, delivering systems with seamless integration and optimal performance in real-world applications.

Our research to date has served the followng application areas among others: Space exploration, Mining, Automotive, Wearables, Internet of Things (IoT), Smart fibres and textile, Structural health monitoring and utilities, Consumer electronics, Security and defense, Biomedical and health, and Telecommunications.
